He Shoots, She Scores!!!!
It’s not too often that one gets the chance to do a hockey themed family photography shoot in an actual ice rink, so when Scott and Cheryl approached me with the idea to shoot their family photos at the local arena; I absolutely jumped at the chance. Dragging my favourite creative partner in crime, Paul of PMD Photography, and a whole lot of studio lighting with me; we hit the ice for what definitely had to be one of our most entertaining shoots yet. Both Scott and Cheryl are absolutely fantastic hockey players and skaters and it was so much fun to capture them doing what they truly love.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice
Henry Ward Beecher once said, “Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven”. And sweet little S certainly is heavenly. Check out this darling little angel that I was so fortunate to photograph recently. It doesn’t get any sweeter than this wee girl.

And, we’re back!!!!
Wow, it’s been a ridiculously, ridiculously long time since I’ve blogged. I’ve still been shooting but trying to make a point of not getting bogged down (or blogged down as the case may be) with all the little details and taking more time to focus on having fun with my little girl. She is growing up way too fast! I know I should promote my work and my business more but ultimately for me I have two priorities in life that will always be first and foremost: 1) My family and my daughter and 2) Giving my clients a photographic memory that will last a lifetime.
But, alas, blogging and maintaining an online portfolio is a huge part of having a photography business so let’s take a little peek at what I’ve been up to lately. Hmm, where do we begin?!
Back in December, I was so blessed to have an absolutely spectacular family/maternity session with an incredibly loving and fun family. I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this session and how wonderfully fantastic this family is. Check out S, a true Titian beauty with her perfect little baby bump (unbelievably there were TWO babies in there!!), her handsome, charming and devoted hubby, P and their precious, sweet and lovely wee girl, M! I really cannot imagine a more perfect or beautiful family! Thank you so much, guys for allowing me to spend the day with you and to allow me to capture these precious moments in your life. I feel truly blessed.

Aloha Nui Loa | I hope you dance | Vancouver Lifestyle Photographer
I am so grateful for the friends and opportunities that my love for photography has brought to my life and there’s nothing more special to me than when a client becomes a dear friend. I met Helen when I was doing corporate headshots for the aesthetics practice where she works and, forgive the pun, but apparently we just clicked. I can’t take all the credit; I think my handsome and talented lighting assistant may have helped catch Helen’s eye.
Helen has been studying Polynesian dance for many years and had been wanting to do a photo shoot to help commemorate her love of hula for quite some time. Apparently after we had so much fun shooting her headshots she thought I might be the right person for the job. I still think she was just hoping my handsome assistant would accompany us
Not only did we have an utterly fantastic time shooting together but my sweet 3 year old girl has absolutely fallen head over heels in love with Auntie Helen and hula dancing and is now dancing her little heart out at the Hula school once a week. It truly warms my heart to see what hula has done for her self confidence and how much fun she is having. Now if only I had her moves….
Thank you, Helen for being an amazing muse and for the wonderful gift of friendship that you have bestowed upon our family. You are truly beautiful inside and out.

Ela Blue Boudoir || Lower Mainland Boudoir Photographer
The last few months have been a bit of a soul searching time for me as a Photographer. I had a bit of a health setback a few months ago and as a result I’ve been unable to manage the rigors of wedding photography this season. As much as I’ve missed it and the opportunity to share in one of the most important days of a person’s life, every cloud has a silver lining and it forced me to sit back and reflect on where Ela Blue Photography and I are headed. What I’ve come to realize is that there are a few areas of photography that truly ignite the passion in my soul and that I would be amiss if I didn’t make an effort to focus on them.
One of my very, very favorite areas of photography is boudoir photography. Every woman should experience a boudoir session to help remind you how really and truly beautiful you really are. Celebrate your curves, the softness of your skin, the twinkle in your eyes and the wonder, grace and individuality that makes you you. Trust me, it will be the most empowering, self esteem boosting and fun thing you’ve done in a long time.
So take a deep breath, and give me a call to book your boudoir session today. You will be so glad you did. And if there’s a special someone in your life – our For Your Eyes Only Album is the gift that keeps on giving.
We recently hosted a mini boudoir marathon here at the studio and I had such a great time laughing, talking and capturing images with these beautiful girls! Here are just a few of my favorite from our session. All makeup and hair styling credit to Kyla G. Makeup.

Models, Makeup and Styling Fun || Makeup, Hair and Styling by Kyla G
I cannot tell you how much I have been looking forward to yesterday’s shoot – the brainchild of the amazing and talented makeup, hair and styling artist, Kyla Giesbrecht of Kyla G. Makeup! Kyla approached me a few weeks ago asking if I would be interested in creating a Tim Burton inspired shoot – with makeup, hair and wardrobe styled something along the lines of the White Queen meets The Corpse Bride. “Um, let me think, heck, YES!!” Her vision and creativity never ceases to amaze and inspire me and she truly outdid herself on this shoot. We had an absolutely fantastic time shooting our stunning and fabulous model, Ally, in the rugged but breathtaking wilds of Lighthouse Park. I am so blessed to get to work with people who inspire and challenge me to kick it up a notch. Kyla and I have lots more up our sleeves, so stay tuned to the blog for more of Kyla’s amazing vision! (And, yep, a little bit of Ela Blue Photography will be featured there too). Huge shout out to our amazing model, Ally, for being an incredible muse! In the spirit of kicking things up a notch, check out the very first Ela Blue slideshow presentation!

Kesler 3 days old | Coquitlam Portrait Photographer | Newborn Photography
Meet Kesler! We’ve been waiting for this little guy to make his debut and he certainly did it in the most patriotic style, arriving on Canada Day! I have to say, he is one of the most perfect newborns I have ever seen and definitely one of the most alert. We tried in vain to get some sweet, sleepy shots of Kesler but he was having absolutely nothing to do with our plan. He’s far too inquisitive and curious and he certainly wasn’t going to take a chance on missing out on any of the action. Check out this wise, sweet, little face. Something tells me there’s a very old soul tucked away in that perfect little newborn body. Thanks so much, guys for bringing your precious little man to see me and on Daddy’s birthday, no less. I am so excited for you both. Kesler is a lucky little boy to have such loving and devoted parents to guide him. Something tells me, he’ll be lacing up his skates and hitting the ice in no time.

Makeup by Kyla G!
Ever wonder how models and celebrities always manage to look beyond amazing on the covers of magazines? Many factors come into play in the creation of a beautiful photograph but perhaps one of the most important is that of a creative partnership between a highly skilled and talented makeup artist and a professional and experienced photographer. Skillful and artfully applied makeup is as important as good lighting, creativity and the correct camera settings when it comes to the creation of an outstanding photograph and an heirloom portrait you will treasure for a lifetime.
I am so thrilled to announce that Ela Blue Photography is now offering the services of professional makeup artist, Kyla Giesbrecht as an add-on to any and all of our photography packages. Kyla is a recent graduate of the world renowned Blanche MacDonald Centre and her vision, talent and creativity never ceases to amaze me. Here are just a few different looks she created during a shoot we did recently. Special thanks to our lovely model Brittany for her time and talent! Stay tuned to the blog for more of Kyla’s amazing work. Just wait until you see what we have up our sleeves! I can’t wait!

And the Eyes Have It!
One of the very best parts of my work as a photographer is the amazing people I get to meet. Meet Matt, an up and coming young actor and one of the nicest people I have met in a long time. We had such a great time shooting together and I have a feeling that life has lots of great things in store for this guy. Check out these eyes! Talk about soulful! I have to say, tall, dark and handsome fits him to a T! Thanks Matt, for being so great to work with. Can’t wait to shoot with you again!

Cheryl and Shaker Maternity Session | Love those Baby Bumps!
I always swore I would never shoot anything wedding as a photographer and I’ll never forget the day that Cheryl asked me to shoot her wedding. I panicked, gave her the names of some amazing wedding photographers but in the end I agreed to shoot her and the girls getting ready. She was an absolutely breathtaking bride and I had such a great time capturing her and her gorgeous bridesmaids getting ready. Afterwards, I was completely hooked on wedding photography and I soon started work as a second shooter for Butter Media. Gina and Chris of Butter Media are amazingly talented and absolutely fantastic people and I have grown so much as a photographer since I started working with them.
I was so excited when Cheryl told me she was pregnant. From the moment I sent her sneak peek photos from her wedding day, she had insisted that she wanted me to do her maternity photos when the time came. Have I mentioned, I love baby bumps?!
Cheryl and Shaker really wanted to do an outdoor shoot so despite the crazy, unseasonable weather we’ve been having, we headed out to the Dykes of Maple Ridge to make some memories. They even brought their adorable dogs along!
Thanks so much, guys, for letting us capture this amazing time in your lives. Can’t wait to meet the little man! Something tells me, he better be a hockey fan
